We have an amazing parish. I feel so blessed to be able to go to a Church with fantastic teaching, a beautiful liturgy, inspiring architecture, and lovely music. The community is full of heroic families who love the Lord and love life, and seek to serve. I also am edified by how we celebrate the liturgical year. On the feast of St Nicholas, December 6th, we had a children's party. The children learned from a priest about the true St Nicholas, the gift of generosity and kindness to those in need, and how to think of others and practice charity in the Christmas season. Then they went to craft tables and made ornaments, candy canes, little nativity bags, etc. St Nicholas (a lovely visiting priest) came by for a visit and the children spoke to him individually and he gave them some simple gifts. Joseph was beaming, (although he's asking a lot of complex questions about Santa, and thinks this is just a helper. We hope he has one more year of the innocence of Christmas and Santa). Johnny was very interested in this guy, he couldn't stop visiting with him. Annelise was, well, terrified of this stranger and after tears, only came near in Mommy's arms. I know there's a photo of me at two years old terrified by the jovial bearded one as well. The day began with kids awakening to their shoes filled with gold coins and a few small presents. Then it snowed and snowed all day long. We enjoyed the cozy indoors as the roads were very icy, and the air was too crisp to even walk in, with a biting wind. A cocoa and curl up with picture books kind of day. I am thankful for St Nicholas and the joy of surprising our children.
