We are so overjoyed to welcome the new Pope Francis today. We were back our first day home unpacking, and our whole family got to pray and anticipate and welcome him with the worldwide community through the gift of technology. What struck us so profoundly was his deep humility. How hard it is for any person to come after JP II and then Benedict. Yet he did and he spoke volumes with his simple body language, and then his words, showing us how to pray simply. His life is an open book, and he clearly has lived a life centered on simplicity and the gospel. Being thrust into the limelight probably wasn't something he ever wanted, especially at this time in his life, yet he was willing. "Lowly and yet chosen." Humble and a servant, of servants. How refreshing of God to bring us the anti-ego in the age of pure egotism found in public leadership and celebrities worldwide. We can hope this Pope's example of humility will draw nonbelievers to faith and hope that there can be more. We pray his holiness draws believers within the Church to go deeper and be more clear reflections of the Gospel and more faithful in following Christ in every part of their lives. May God bless him, and give him courage and grace to help carry the Church.
