First T-Ball Game for Johnny

It was love at first swing.

The first time this little boy held his first (plastic) bat, he swung at the ball hitting off a tee for over an hour. He skipped cake and ice cream and presents at a birthday party in 80+ degrees while retrieving his own balls. He was enamored with the fun of the game at three years old. The adults attending just were amazed to watch his passion. His Dad watched and smiled. He knew, he understood the love of the game, and knew deeply what it mean to be a boy who loves to play a game.

So we left the party with a new tee and the bat and plastic ball for this three year old to enjoy. Johnny's always wanting to use it, and his love of hitting has only grown.  Our Johnny boy loves to swing, and prove that big things come in small packages.

His first baseball game he counted down for at least two weeks. He laid out his clothes ahead of time, he asked about every day. He longed for it. He loved going to practice and learning to listen with his team to their coach. When game day arrived he showed up with his little jersey with a 1 on it. It was so big when you tucked it in, only half the number showed. So Dad teased that his number was 1/2. We adjusted number 1 and he walks tall.

He is enthusiasm more than focus, and all the other little fellows were also just too cute for words. There were boys with helmets that rested high on top of their heads (head was too big) rather than fitting over. There were boys who looked like they didn't know which was to run. The boys did their best to throw in the right direction and were lucky to catch any of the balls. The coaches were so positive and steady and kind. We laughed and cheered, and tried not to laugh too much.
Annelise was cheering him on!
We forgot they start so small, and enjoyed the three inning game. Go Bulldogs!! Oh, Johnny, one more thing, left field is the other way! :) He also really enjoyed his snack. (The other highlight of the game.) We are so proud of our little baseball player!
Number 1 on his back and in our hearts.
