"Look at dis! I like it it stweches."

"Look at what you got Johnny, I can help you with it!"
We had a relaxing and fun Christmas morning. The kids woke up to surprises from St Nick (greatly downplayed but still making an appearance in the stocking area). He brought Joseph some more spyware, Johnny a hoppy ball and construction pieces, and Annelise got a dollhouse. Everyone loved the dollhouse, even Joseph who said, "This is so great! I could help her with it. " Johnny hopped around on the ball with the ball behind him and he hopped once and the ball wasn't under him. As he landed on the floor in disbelief we all laughed with him. He didn't trust the ball for a while.
Johnny and Annelise wanted to help everyone open their presents. They were delighted with the whole process. Joseph wanted to be "santa" and wear the hat and pass out the gifts to each person. We all took turns and enjoyed opening each gift. It tooks a while, but it helped us enjoy the thoughtfulness of each item and see the appreciation each person has for the gift they were given. It was especially fun to see the excitement of the kids. I think it's fair to say, the adults could have just had coffee or tea and watched the kids, enjoying the snow, the music, and the afterglow of Christmas Eve mass and been quite full and content. I know just to see my family and have the kids happy made Mom feel more content than words can express. Anna and Grandpa went to mass and we all took a break and just enjoyed the gifts that were opened. Bill and I were realizing this was the first year in a few without "babies" and how different it was. The kids could play much longer and were really understanding the "birthday of Jesus" more than they ever had before. The first thing they did was find him in the nativity and see that he had arrived. All the work of making advent a time of preparation really made the beginning of these 12 days something very special.
