Well it's official, Elena can talk at 20 months. She strings two words or more together, and can imitate many words, and initiate some words too. We took notice last week when Auntie asked her if she would like some water and she replied, looking at the cup, "Dat's milk." Yes, and she was right it was. Now a few days later she says, "Up pleeese", "Wear it", "Hold you", "Book", and of course "No" and "Mine!" The sweetest sounds are, "Luv you," "Mum, mum," and "Daddy home." The little tiny baby of last year is now a big, talking toddler, who knows what she wants most of the time, and is able to let us know now too.
She has taken to drawing on the walls while her older siblings do their drawing on paper or books. Her brother and Mom spent a while and took the multiple crayon and pencil marks off the wall, by pretending a dragon made them with his fierce tale. Johnny the knight wanted to defend his castle and remove the markings before the dragon returns, well so that's what we did to make the task more fun. Only thing was the adorable dragon returned in an hour, after nap and managed to redo the graffiti.
She likes to help in the kitchen, with her sister and is very good at staying focused on her potatoes or carrots.
The house is has become one big climbing adventure. We find her on top of furniture, with an impish smile, or a squeal of delight. Talking, exploring, and hopefully soon sleeping, we are excited to see her growing bigger.
We love having a sleepsack to help her stay in her crib or pack'n'play during sleep time. Since she's so tall she could easily climb out of most everything. She now knows when she puts on her 'sack' on what time it is, and she's learning to sleep at night, finally. It's none too soon for Mom here, to begin getting better sleep. Auntie was so kind to sleep with her to transition since we noticed she didn't wake up and want to nurse with Auntie in the room. Auntie has the magic "shhh" that is worth more than we can say.
She's learning to be a little fan for her soccer siblings, cheering them on in their games. "Go Johnny" and "Go Leese!" The days are long, but the years are short as we marvel at such a big girl in the house.
