Choir Class

We have had the opportunity to participate in an elementary choir class with an amazing instructor, she is really reminds me of Julie Andrews. Her singing appears very fun and natural and beautiful. This is held at the local college in the Music building. It is a fun journey for us to enter the old brick building, climb the stairs, gaze out the beautiful old windows and imagine the history of all the students before us. We sit "quietly" two three year olds and I, for 45 minutes for instruction. Hmmm, or we try to with coloring books and snuggles from Mom. It's the first time the munchkins can attempt to sit quietly for an activity. They do color also but mostly they listen and they tell me they want to sing too. They have learned some of the songs along with Joseph. Joseph has also taken time to try to teach them. He is very patient and they look up to him.

The funniest thing occurred the other day. It was the final rehearsal before performance and the teacher was working on timing on a tough song called "Chima Chima Ring Ching Ching..." It moves fast and she would call out the rest times for the students to pause appropriately while she played the accompaniment on the piano. So then later when Joseph left rehearsal and was singing the song at home, Annelise surprised us by very authoritatively imitating the teacher's exact gestures swinging her arms up high and calling out "Rest!" at the appropriate places in the music. We all started howling with laughter, when she didn't understand why she was funny at all. So throughout dinner she would continue to call out, "Rest!" very dramatically during our conversations to see if it would still make us laugh. Funny girl. The amazing thing in it was she remembered the correct place in the song to call out the "rest".  It's fun now we like to play "choir".  Johnny pretends he can sing and Leesie is happy to be in charge. After all she sings all the time and openly talks of becoming an Irish singer. In the meantime she's content to imitate our lovely instructor. What a gift a good teacher is!
